Book Entry 183: 1987 Heidi's 8th Grade Graduation Banquet

Heidi was fun when we went looking for her graduation banquet dress.  Heidi, Robin, and I went.  We started at Macy’s where there was one beautiful beige dress that caught Heidi’s eye.  It was chiffon material accented with yards of lace and ribbons.  It was a very pretty dress nothing like the tag suggested labeling it a Gunne Sax.  Could we possibly have been so lucky as to find the perfect dress in the first place we looked?  No, not possible, we spent the better part of the day looking in every store in the mall at dress after dress.  We looked at blue dresses and pink dresses.  We looked at dresses with sleeves and sleeveless dresses.  We looked at fancy dresses and we looked at dresses more on the simple elegant side.  We were on a mission.
We searched for dresses all morning.  We talked about the dresses we’d seen all through our lunch.  We looked at dresses through the afternoon.  About four o’clock Heidi said she was trying to decide between two dresses and she’d like to go back to Macys and see the beige dress again.  This time when she put it on her face lit up like it was magic.  Yep, it was the first one she’d tried and it turned out to be the one she chose.
As it happened three days before the banquet Heidi got sick with a flu virus.  We weren’t sure if she should go to the banquet or not but in the end we decided she was no longer contagious and she really wanted to go.  Larry was proud to escort her.  He gave her a beautiful corsage.  After being sick for three days when she put on that beige dress she just about matched it.  Her lipstick and that corsage were the only colors I could see.  Pale as she was she was a vision to me when they left. The picture shown is not Heidi but the dress is very similar is not exactly the same.
When they arrived home later Heidi was so tired she threw up again.  She was miserable all night but I think the next morning she was glad she’d gone.  She showed me the menu for the night and told me everything that happened.  I’m glad she didn’t miss her banquet.
