Book Entry 51: 1962 Too Excited for School

In the fall of 1960 I started 6th grade.  It was my first move to a new campus.  I was stepping up to LeBright School.  I can’t believe how excited and scared I was.  Mom and dad picked the first week of the school year to take a trip to Oregon and Washington State.  I was scheduled to spend that time with my Grandma and Grandpa Stevens.  Grandma and Grandpa lived on the same street as LeBright School.  I was so excited about staying with them, starting a new school, and thinking how grown up I was getting.   In fact, I was so excited I got sick and had to miss the first day of school.
When my parents got home from their trip they brought the biggest red delicious apples with them.  They were huge!  I’ve never seen apples that big again!   They also brought me a wonderful two-story metal doll house.  It had furniture and people and pets and everything!  I felt I was too old for it of course, being in the 6th grade but I spent hours arranging and rearranging everything in it.

  1. I had a metal doll house like that too. I don't think one ever gets too old for the fun of arranging all the furniture in it.
    Great memories Joyce.
